VENTILATION SILENCERS

Soundmaster ventilation silencers are designed for 12,000 or 24,000 cfm airflows (larger airflows are available). The silencers can be used for inlet or exhaust air. The silencers are designed to reduce noise levels from the test cell and from the ventilation blower.

We also have silencers for carburetor air for engine test cells.

These silencers are not designed to replace the muffler for your engine/motorcycle test package.

Construction: Each silencer is constructed of 22 gauge galvanized steel exterior and 26 gauge perforated steel interior partitions. Acoustic fill is mineral wool or fiberglass.

Dimensions: Vary with airflow. Typical sizes are 30” x 36” x 60” long or 45” x 48’ x 60” long.

High Performance Silencers: Some applications require even higher levels of noise reduction. Silencers that are 84” long or 120” long are available.

VENTILATION PLENUMS:

Engine Dyno Cells:

In a typical Engine Dyno Test Cell, an engine would be rolled into the facility and connected to the dyno. High temperature exhaust hoses (by others) would be connected to the engine. The exhaust hoses would run through the back of the test cell into the large exhaust plenum tower. If you choose to use engine mufflers they can be placed vertically in the exhaust plenum or horizontally in the acoustic chase if the plenum is located outside.

The exhaust fan for our test cells will be located in the exhaust tower above the engine mufflers, but below the ventilation exhaust silencers. When in operation, air would be pulled through the inlet silencers in the roof at the door end of the building, across the engine through a 4’ x 5’ opening in the rear wall and out through the exhaust silencers.

Sometimes that exhaust plenum is located inside the customer’s building and sometimes it is located outside. If it is located outside of the host building we would provide an acoustic chase between the test cell and the exhaust plenum. In most cases, we supply the blower that is located inside the exhaust plenum.

Engine Test Cell Plenums include:

• Exhaust plenum at the back wall of the dyno cell measures approximately 48” x 60” x 168” high plus exhaust silencers. The exhaust plenum is tied into an existing test cell wall. The test cell wall should have a 48” x 60” opening centered on the exhaust plenum to allow air to exit the test cell.

• The exhaust silencer sizes vary according to the airflow.

• The exhaust blower is a tubeaxial blower with a 5 to 10 H.P. motor operating at 208-230/460 3-phase power. The size varies with airflow. Motor starter by others. We include a mounting bracket for the fan and blower to be mounted in the exhaust plenum.

• Intake silencer sizes vary according to the airflow. The intake silencers are mounted in the ceiling near the door.

Motorcycle Test Cells:

In the normal Motorcycle Dyno Test Facility, the bike would be rolled into the facility and onto the dyno. The exhaust fan for our test cells will be located in the small plenum chamber above the rear end of the motorcycle. When in operation, air would be pulled through the inlet silencer in the plenum chamber at the front end of the building, across the bike and out through the exhaust silencers above the rear end of the cycle.

Motorcycle Test Cell Plenums include:

• Intake plenum at front wall of the dyno cell measures approximately 48” x 60” x 120” high plus inlet silencers. The intake plenum is tied into an existing test cell wall. The test cell wall should have a 48” x 48” opening centered on the inlet plenum to allow intake air into the test cell.

• Intake silencer sizes vary according to the airflow.

• The exhaust plenum is to be mounted on the roof of the test cell or on the building roof. The exhaust plenum size varies according to the airflow. The exhaust plenum includes a 36” x 36” access door for servicing the motor.
